At the recent Australian Film Awards Russsell Crowe played host. He walked on, carrying a telephone and warned people that if they stayed too long on the stage then they'd be saying, 'hello', to his little friend. He was sending himself up in regards to the incident in a New York hotel, earlier in the year, when he threw a telephone at a hotel employee. Amusing...well, yes actually.
I am not about to condone his behaviour - I think the word 'wrong' puts it in simple contents. In my opinion though his behaviour takes a back seat to the media coverage and attitudes towards what he did. Okay, so he got into a strop and threw a phone at someone, no-one wants to be on the end of that but if it has been anyone else it would have barely made the news.
The guy has paid his dues, said his apologises and is the first to criticise himself for his behaviour that day. Okay, so he's a BIG movie star, okay so his track record isn't exactly perfect, but nevermind all that...he's interesting. He's a 100% mascaline guy who's talented, intelligent and hard working. So, he has a temper, Hell you get on the wrong side of me and it won't be a phone slicing through the air towards you! The fact that he is able to, 'take the mick', out of himself makes it clear that he can laugh at himself and that's healthy if you ask me. If you behave like a jerk then at least have the decency to admit to it.
I'm sorry that the hotel employee got hurt, (I believe it wasn't anything serious), but I'm sure he has been compensated for it.
In future, I guess, Mr Crowe will be nothing but politness itself to hotel staff...maybe.:P
